Within the core IMBOK handbook there is a wealth of best-practice available to concerned IT practitioners, who want to know how to improve their contribution to the organisations that they work for. IT Practitioners have many issues that they have to deal with, but despite this obvious truth many experts have asserted that it is "only necessary to align your IT strategy with your business strategy" and all will be well. This is nonsense. The journey from IT investment to strategic achievement (for the organisation at large) is a long and complex one. The IMBOK sets out the linkages and dependencies that make it much clearer what must be done to achieve this highly desirable but difficult alignment. We suggest that you read the IMBOK from the IT end (that's the left hand end of the figure that is used to depict the IMBOK) and examine how the development and delivery of systems is crucially dependent on the management style that is applied in IT projects. |
