This web, known as the "Information Management Body of Knowledge", is a living collection of ideas and tools that will assist all those who are concerned to get the best out of their information technology and information systems investments. It has emerged from research work undertaken in a partnership between the University of the Western Cape and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, both located in Cape Town, South Africa, but its origins can be traced back into the history of information management in Europe and elsewhere.
Features of the IMBOK and its web include:
A 177 page handbook that is available for download to registered users. This handbook organises and explains a wide range of tools with which to navigate the management of information technology, information systems, business processes, business performance improvement, and issues in business strategy related to information within the business.
A formative wiki that assembles some of the essential ideas about information management, and provides a vehicle for all registered users to contribute their own ideas about problems, tools, methods and techniques.
When needed, a discussion area where relevant questions can be debated.
A tabulation of 144 competencies that can be used to assess organisational capability to deliver the benefits of information technology and information systems investments.
At the time of writing, an analytical tool is being developed that will provide the means to assess and analyse organisational capability to manage information well. Contact us for more details.
